Simulations, 2006
By assembling differently focused, cropped and exposed images together to recreate a
scene, the subject matter of Simulations is presented in a way that both allows and denies
access to different sections of visual information within the larger frame. By ‘constructing’
images of Toronto cityscapes in this manner, viewers are made to consider the information
that is lost or difficult to discern on the same level as that which is readily accessible. The
empty white space surrounding the floating images additionally becomes part of the work,
as it is suggestive of more information to be acquired outside of the irregular photographic
frame.
